Create an API key

Sign in to Max Router and create a token on the API Keys page. Requests use a Max Router token, not an upstream provider key. Token quota, model restrictions, and group affect which models you can call.

Store tokens in server-side environment variables or a secrets manager. Do not put them in frontend code, public repositories, screenshots, or documentation.

Configure the base URL

The base URL is https://maxrouterai.com, without an endpoint path. Do not append /v1 twice when an endpoint already includes it.

Anthropic- and Gemini-compatible protocols may use different authentication headers; consult their endpoint pages. Do not put credentials in URL query parameters.
